Discovery Junction is where collaboration meets education! As a cooperative co-op, we thrive on the participation of all members who are eager to embark on a journey of learning and growth. Our cooperative's curriculum is designed specifically for children aged 2-6. While we gladly welcome older and younger siblings to join our events.

At Discovery Junction, each member receives personalized assistance from our team in creating and developing their rotational event. With our system, every member hosts an event on a rotational basis (depending on membership enrollment), ensuring a diverse and engaging experience for all involved.

Parents play a central role in our cooperative, taking turns leading events while benefiting from our expert guidance in planning and preparation. We provide comprehensive supplementary curriculum covering a wide range of subjects, empowering parents to enrich their children's education at home throughout the week. This curriculum is thoughtfully aligned with the upcoming event, serving as a valuable preparatory tool. We also offer comprehensive support services, providing guidance on effective teaching methods, facilitating access to high-quality supplementary learning materials for home-based education, and curriculum alterations to fit the need of every child's individual needs.

Our mission at Discovery Junction is to empower parents with the resources and confidence needed to effectively educate their children through the homeschooling journey. We offer weekly events, lasting 2-3 hours, where parental attendance is mandatory. This offers opportunities for meaningful connection and learning for both children and parents alike. Where do you meet?

As an exploratory co-op, it is our goal to provide diverse and enriching learning experiences by visiting a wide range of locations. To ensure a variety of settings and avoid revisiting the same sites frequently, we have established a maximum drive time of one hour for events, as detailed in our handbook. Each week, we select a different venue to explore and learn, ensuring that our members are consistently exposed to new environments and educational opportunities.

What does the hosting of an event entail?


The primary purpose of our co-op is to guide and support parents in the production, creation, and demonstration of educational events, helping them build confidence and competence in their ability to homeschool. This process empowers parents to grow into effective educators and acquire the essential skills for homeschooling.

Recognizing the busy schedules of parents, we offer comprehensive support by not only coaching you through the event planning process but also developing detailed educational materials tailored to the selected venue. We provide these materials along with clear instructions on how to present them.

Hosting an event involves several key steps:

- Venue Selection: Choose a suitable venue within a maximum one-hour drive, as per our handbook guidelines.

- Theme Selection: Identify a theme related to the venue, such as a specific animal, ecosystem, or natural feature that participants will encounter there.

- Material Development: We will create a relevant art project, craft, lesson, or demonstration that aligns with the chosen theme.

- Literature Integration: Select an age-appropriate book that complements the theme, providing both educational and engaging content.

As a host, you are responsible for:

- Guiding the children through the art project, craft, lesson, or demonstration.
- Reading the selected book to the children.
- Leading the exploration of the venue, encouraging curiosity and discovery.

By participating in this process, parents not only facilitate enriching educational experiences for their children but also develop the skills and confidence needed to effectively homeschool independently in the future.
